The German engineer Hans Wenker receives an order to build a pedestrian bridge made of a new concrete in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. There he falls in love with the Indian girl Tamia from a distant jungle village. When her grandfather, the village shaman, arrives at the opening ceremony in Quito, the bridge mysteriously collapses. Tamia “kidnaps” Hans to her village. And miracles happen which the German could not possibly expect: In Quito a new bridge appears, a bridge like the ones that are built in the jungle from bamboo, reed, lianas, without any concrete.
He returns to Quito alone, where he is celebrated as an ingenious architect. Puzzled and bewildered, he has only one wish: to return to Europe. At the airport, Tamia is waiting for him.
